The Butterfly ProjectBespoke Transition Support and Planning

Training

In addition to the ‘in action’ training supplied to young people’s personal support assistants (PA’s) during the workshop programme, The Butterfly Project also work with the local Health Team (PCT) to organize training to occur alongside the workshops. To date, this has included training for PA’s in topics such as “communication” (with the Speech & Language Therapy Service) and “thinking about transition” (with the Psychology Team). In the future PA’s have highlighted that they would like training in areas such as Sign-along and positive intervention (to support young people when they are distressed).

The Butterfly Project also responds to issues highlighted by families and carers around transition. So far, this has included a free training session around completing the SDS Monitoring Form issued by the Borough (in collaboration with The Shaw Trust & the Newham Carers Network). In the future we hope to offer more free sessions around topics such as ‘employing staff’ and ‘managing budgets’.
